Plum Grove Historical Site {Home School Field Trip} | Iowa City Home Schoolers

So I know I haven’t blogged in a really long time an eternity! I have been so busy!!  We’re into week 3 of our school year this year and using My Father’s World for the first time.  We ‘re also doing Rosetta Stone Spanish, which I love!!!  Speaking of which, I still have to get Ryan started on it, Abby’s been doing it for a week now, but I haven’t started Ryan yet.

Yesterday we went on a Field Trip with our coop group.  Plum Grove is the home of the first Governor of Iowa, Robert Lucas.  You can check out more info here http://www.uiowa.edu/~plumgrov/

We went there a few years ago as well, so this year I took more details photos of the various antique items in the home.  It’s so pretty and with all of our electronics and having plumbing and things in the home, it’s always humbling to me to think about living life without these things.  Even basics like indoor water and electricity.  The computers, iPads, iPods, etc sometimes tend to be a hindrance more than a help.

I was also amazed, as we are so used to our huge homes in this country, to imaging living with a large family as they did with only 3 bedrooms in the home.  One for the boys and one for the girls and the master bedroom for mom and dad.

It’s an interesting tour though and if you are ever in the Iowa City area, you should check it out!

Here are some of the images I shot, be warned, I never edited any of them LOL!

Aren’t the flowers lovely?   I love flowers.  They have beautiful gardens on the land where the house is.
