I know what you want to do this weekend.. How do I know? I just do. You want to be inspired right? You want to be motivated to do some thing good. Even just for one person.
Cue the movie McFarland USA.
My husband and I just went to see this tonight. I did not get paid or anything to tell you about this motivational film. I just was so moved by it that I had to blog about it.
Based on a true story, the movie opens up with Coach White (Costner) moving his family to McFarland, USA. The movie is based on a true story, and follows the Coach as he creates a Cross Country team out of Hispanic “pickers” who no one else will even look twice at. These kids are rejected and despised just based on their jobs as pickers in the fields and being Hispanic.
The Coach and his family were more accepted by the townspeople than he was of them. The first time he saw a few of them he thought they were gang bangers.
After watching a few of the kids run from the fields to school and back to the fields and in P.E. class he went took it upon him self to learn about running and create a XC team. They were all ridiculed, made fun of and not supported by the other area towns (Palo Alto in particular)
The film truly shows how badly we judge one another based on race and social standing. It also truly shows the grit of the human race to overcome adversity.
You do not even need to be a runner to enjoy this film. Hubby went (grudgingly) with me and he liked it. He even came home and looked up McFarland on the map.
McFarland USA is also very family friendly. I don’t think there was any language in it, and if there was I never even noticed. Oh, and you’ll need tissues.
Seriously, if you want to be inspired & motivated then you need to go see this movie!
If you’ve seen it, please share your thoughts about it in the comments!
